Dropshipping on eBay does not get a special fee card. Most-category Final Value Fee is 13.6% of what the buyer pays — item plus shipping you charge — up to $7,500.00, then 2.35%, plus $0.30 per order at or under $10.00 and $0.40 above. Payment processing is already inside that stack.
The eBay Fee Calculator defaults match SKU A below ($29.99 + $5.99 shipping charged). A typical $19.99 free-ship dropship with $12.00 supplier cost and a $5.50 label is already a loss before Promoted Listings. This page is that fork, not another “how to start dropshipping on eBay” walkthrough.
Case study · illustrated math
Same $29.99 SKU — Promoted off vs 5.0%
Buyer pays $29.99 + $5.99 shipping ($35.98 fee base).
COGS $8.00, your label $4.50.
13.6% Final Value Fee + $0.40 per-order on both.
No tax. Drawn as fee waterfalls from ebay.ts.
Promoted off
$18.19 keep13.6% FVF on $35.98 · $0.40 per-order · processing included.
5.0% Promoted
$16.39 keepSame FVF stack plus 5.0% of the sale total when the click converts.
Fee verdict on this SKU: organic keep is $18.19; 5.0% Promoted leaves $16.39 (45.5%). The $19.99 free-ship dropship in the tables below is already a loss before ads — do not paste this waterfall onto a thin SKU. Reproduce it in the eBay Fee Calculator.
What the fee actually sits on
eBay does not take 13.6% of your item price. It takes 13.6% of the total amount of the sale. On this page that base is item price plus shipping charged to the buyer — the same two fields the calculator uses. Official help also folds sales tax into the sale amount on some invoices; the live tool does not add tax, so a tax-inclusive checkout is a higher base than the tables below. Verify the fee line in Seller Hub.
- Final Value Fee — 13.6% on the sale total up to $7,500.00 per item, then 2.35% on the excess. Dropshipping almost never crosses $7,500.00; the headline rate is the planning rate.
- Per-order fee — $0.30 when the sale total is $10.00 or less, $0.40 above. Cheap SKUs feel this line as extra points of take-rate.
- Promoted Listings — optional. The dataset band is 1%– 20% of the same sale total, charged only when the promoted item sells. Confirm the live min/max in Seller Hub; campaign labels change.
Insertion fees, Store subscriptions, international fees, and category exceptions (books,
jewelry, sneakers, guitars) are not in ebay.ts. Do not type them
into the tables. If Seller Hub shows a different Final Value percentage, use that
percentage in the calculator’s mental model and treat this page as the most-category
default. Verify in your seller dashboard.
SKU A: the calculator default
SKU A is the live tool default — $29.99 item, $8.00 COGS, $4.50 label, $5.99 charged to the buyer. Paid total is $35.98. Final Value Fee is $4.89; the per-order line is $0.40 because the total is over $10.00. After supplier and label you still have $23.48 — wide enough that the fee stack leaves $18.19 (50.5% · healthy).
SKU A · $29.99 · $8.00 COGS · $4.50 label · $5.99 charged
| Promoted rate | FVF | Per-order | Ad fee | Profit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Off | $4.89 | $0.40 | $0.00 | $18.19 | 50.5% · healthy |
| 1% | $4.89 | $0.40 | $0.36 | $17.83 | 49.5% · healthy |
| 5.0% | $4.89 | $0.40 | $1.80 | $16.39 | 45.5% · healthy |
| 20% | $4.89 | $0.40 | $7.20 | $10.99 | 30.5% · healthy |
The 1% and 20% rows are the dataset band, not a recommendation. Even the 20% ceiling leaves $10.99 (30.5% · healthy) because leftover after supplier and label is $23.48. The max Promoted rate that still clears 25% on this SKU is 25.5% — above the file’s 20% cap, so ads will not flip SKU A to thin.
Reproduce the first row: open the eBay Fee Calculator, keep every default, read Net profit / item ($18.19). Switch Promoted Listings on and leave the 5.0% ad rate. Profit should fall to $16.39. That $1.80 gap is 5% of $35.98 — not a second processing fee.
SKU B: the dropship that looks cheap
Cut the ticket to $19.99, raise supplier cost to $12.00, pay $5.50 for the label, and charge the buyer nothing for shipping. Paid total is now $19.99. Final Value Fee is still 13.6% of that total ($2.72) plus $0.40. Leftover after supplier and label is only $2.49 — less than the fee stack — so the unit lands at -$0.63 (-3.1% · loss).
SKU B · $19.99 · $12.00 COGS · $5.50 label · free ship
| Promoted rate | eBay take | Leftover | Profit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Off | $3.12 | $2.49 | -$0.63 | -3.1% · loss |
| 5% | $4.12 | $2.49 | -$1.63 | -8.1% · loss |
Ads cannot rescue a leftover smaller than Final Value Fee + per-order. The Promoted ceiling that would still hit 25% on SKU B is -28.1% — a negative rate, which means raise the list price or cut landed cost first.
The free-ship list price that clears 25% on SKU B’s $12.00 + $5.50 landed, with the $0.40 per-order (the order is over $10.00), is:
($12.00 + $5.50 + $0.40) ÷ (1 − 13.6% − 25%) = $29.15
Rounded to cents that is $29.16, which the calculator will show as about $7.29 (25.0% · healthy) with ads off and shipping charged at $0.00. If you cannot list near that price against the same supplier, the SKU does not belong on eBay dropship — it belongs on a channel whose take is lower, or it belongs in a warehouse you control. Compare the platform take in the Marketplace Fee Comparison Calculator before you automate the listing.
SKU C: thin leftover, ads decide the pill
$24.99 free-ship with $10.00 COGS and a $4.99 label leaves $10.00 after landed. That is enough to cover $3.40 + $0.40 and still print $6.20 (24.8% · thin) — just under the 25% healthy line. Promoted Listings is what knocks it around.
SKU C · $24.99 · $10.00 COGS · $4.99 label · free ship
| Promoted rate | Ad fee | Profit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Off | $0.00 | $6.20 | 24.8% · thin |
| 1% | $0.25 | $5.95 | 23.8% · thin |
| 5.0% | $1.25 | $4.95 | 19.8% · thin |
| 20% | $5.00 | $1.20 | 4.8% · thin |
Organic is already 24.8% · thin. A 5% rate leaves $4.95 (19.8% · thin). The dataset 20% ceiling leaves $1.20 (4.8% · thin). The Promoted rate that would still clear 25% is -0.2% — below zero, so do not buy ads on SKU C until leftover widens.
If A, then X — if B, then Y
The rule is not “it depends on your business.” It is three leftover checks against the same 13.6% + per-order stack:
- If leftover after supplier + label is wide (SKU A: $23.48 on a $35.98 paid total) — the calculator result stays 50.5% · healthy. Promoted Listings inside the 1%–20% band still clears 25%. List it. Ads are a volume lever, not a fee problem.
- If leftover is smaller than Final Value Fee + per-order (SKU B: $2.49 vs $3.12) — the unit is a -$0.63 loss before ads. Raise list toward $29.16 free-ship, cut landed, or skip the SKU. Do not turn Promoted Listings on.
- If leftover is only a few dollars above the fee stack (SKU C: $6.20 organic) — organic is 24.8% · thin. A 5% ad rate stays thin; the 20% ceiling nearly wipes the leftover. Fix price or cost before you buy the click.
How to run the number this week
- Open the eBay Fee Calculator. Enter the price you will actually list, the supplier invoice, the label you will buy, and the shipping you will charge. Use last week’s real numbers, not a hoped-for AOV.
- Read Net profit / item with Promoted Listings off. That is the organic unit. If it is already red, stop. The 13.6% line will not get smaller because you advertised.
- If organic clears 25%, flip Promoted Listings on. Start at the calculator’s 5.0% default — inside the dataset 1%–20% band — and watch the margin pill. Stay at or under the rate that keeps the pill out of thin.
- Same SKU on Shopify, TikTok Shop, or Temu as well? Use the Marketplace Fee Comparison Calculator for the platform take, then come back here for the eBay shipping-charged base. The Dropshipping Profit Calculator is the all-in view once ads and returns sit on top of the same contribution.
- Only after the unit is green, automate fulfilment. Listing tools do not change the 13.6% — AutoDS* and Zendrop* sit in the ops line, not the fee line. Price the SKU first.
Cross-border dropship from a China warehouse is a different landed-cost problem — the 2026 tariff stack, not this Final Value Fee. That discussion lives in Is Dropshipping Dead in 2026? and the US Import Tariff Calculator. Do not mix those percentages into the eBay take.
Frequently asked questions
What are eBay dropshipping fees in 2026?
There is no dropship-only card. Most US categories pay a 13.6% Final Value Fee on the total sale (item + shipping you charge the buyer) up to $7,500.00, then 2.35% on the excess, plus $0.30 per order at or under $10.00 and $0.40 above. Payment processing is inside that stack. Promoted Listings in our dataset is a seller-set 1%–20% on the same sale total, charged only when the promoted item sells. Category, Store, and seller-level variants sit outside this file — verify in Seller Hub.
Does eBay charge Final Value Fee on shipping for dropshipped orders?
Yes on shipping you charge the buyer. The calculator and this page use item price + shipping charged as the fee base. Free shipping does not remove the percentage — it just moves the dollars into the item price, where the same 13.6% still applies. Official help also lists sales tax inside the sale amount on some invoices; the live tool does not add tax, so treat a tax-inclusive checkout as a higher base and verify the fee line in Seller Hub.
Is there a separate PayPal or card-processing fee on eBay?
Not in the current managed-payments model this dataset uses. The 13.6% Final Value Fee already includes payment processing. Do not stack Stripe or PayPal on top of the calculator output. If your payout still shows an extra processing line, that is an account-specific exception — verify in your seller dashboard.
How do Promoted Listings change dropshipping margin on eBay?
The ad rate is extra, not a substitute for Final Value Fee. Our file models 1%–20% of the same sale total. On the calculator-default $29.99 SKU (buyer pays $5.99 shipping), a 5% rate takes profit from $18.19 to $16.39 and still leaves a 45.5% margin. On the $19.99 free-ship dropship, you are already at -$0.63 before ads — raising the Promoted rate only deepens the loss. Confirm the live ad-rate bounds in Seller Hub; they can sit outside this band.
How do I reproduce the $29.99 eBay dropshipping example?
Open the eBay Fee Calculator. Leave Item Selling Price at $29.99, Product Cost at $8.00, Your Shipping Cost at $4.50, and Shipping Charged to Buyer at $5.99. With Promoted Listings off, Final Value Fee is $4.89, per-order is $0.40, and net profit is $18.19. Flip Promoted Listings on at 5.0% to match the $16.39 row. Swap in SKU B ($19.99 / $12.00 / $5.50 / $0.00 shipping charged) to see the loss case.
