Large Bulky is not a heavier Large Standard cell. Once Amazon assigns the tier, the 2026 $10–$50 card is a formula: $9.35 for the first pound, then $0.38 per extra pound — and the 3.5% fuel surcharge multiplies the sum, not the sticker price.
Switch the Amazon FBA Calculator to Large Bulky on a $29.99 Home & Kitchen listing (the tool’s defaults except size tier and weight). At 1.00 lb the fulfillment row is $9.68; at 10.00 lb it is $13.22; at 20.00 lb leftover flips to -$0.85. Large Standard weight steps are a different walkthrough — 1 lb vs 2 lb vs 3 lb.
Base plus pounds, not a new weight table
Large Standard publishes a cell for each quarter-pound step. Large Bulky does not. The file stores one three-band base ($8.58 / $9.35 / $9.35) and one adder ($0.38 per lb after 1.00 lb). Price band is the other axis: this page stays in the $10–$50 column for $29.99 and $19.99. Under $10 the same 1.00 lb unit drops $0.77 before fuel — not enough to rescue a cheap bulky SKU, which is why low-price FBA is a Standard-size story.
Large Bulky · $10–$50 card · base fulfillment (before 3.5% fuel)
| Shipping weight | Base FBA | After fuel | Dataset cell |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 lb (first pound) | $9.35 | $9.68 | largeBulkyBase.mid |
| 2.00 lb | $9.73 | $10.07 | mid + 1 × $0.38 |
| 5.00 lb | $10.87 | $11.25 | mid + 4 × $0.38 |
| 10.00 lb | $12.77 | $13.22 | mid + 9 × $0.38 |
| 20.00 lb | $16.57 | $17.15 | mid + 19 × $0.38 |

SKUs in Seller Central.
The first dollar you pay is the size-tier cliff, not the adder. The calculator’s Large Standard 1.5 lb default bills $5.61 after fuel. The same $29.99 listing on Large Bulky at 1.00 lb bills $9.68 — $4.07 more fulfillment before you add a single extra pound. The 3.5% line that sits on both cells is fuel surcharge math, not a bulky-only fee.
SKU A: $29.99, calculator defaults, only size and weight change
SKU A is the calculator’s default Home & Kitchen listing: $29.99, $8.00 COGS, $1.00 inbound, 0.25 cu ft, one off-peak month of storage ($0.78/cu ft → $0.20). Referral stays 15% ($4.50; the $0.30 minimum is not binding). Storage is held constant so the table isolates fulfillment — a real 20 lb carton is often larger than 0.25 cu ft; re-enter your cube in the tool.
SKU A · Home & Kitchen · $29.99 · $8.00 COGS · $1.00 inbound · 0.25 cu ft × $0.78
| Weight | Referral (15%) | FBA + fuel | Storage | Profit / unit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Large Standard 1.5 lb (default) | $4.50 | $5.61 | $0.20 | $10.69 | 35.6% · healthy |
| Large Bulky 1.00 lb | $4.50 | $9.68 | $0.20 | $6.62 | 22.1% · thin |
| Large Bulky 10.00 lb | $4.50 | $13.22 | $0.20 | $3.08 | 10.3% · thin |
| Large Bulky 20.00 lb | $4.50 | $17.15 | $0.20 | -$0.85 | -2.8% · loss |
Profit = price − referral − FBA − storage − inbound − COGS. Reproduce the bulky rows in the calculator with Large Bulky + Home & Kitchen + $29.99. The 1 → 10 lb step is $3.54; 10 → 20 lb is $3.93.
On this mid-ticket SKU the 10 lb version is still 10.3% · thin — below the 25% healthy line the tools use, but not a loss. The 20 lb version is -$0.85. Weight is a packaging and inbound project only after the size-tier assignment is real: if the unit still fits Large Standard, do not model it on this card.
SKU B: $19.99 / $10 COGS — 1 lb already loses
Same Large Bulky path, tighter contribution. $19.99 still sits in the $10–$50 fulfillment column, so the FBA cells are identical to SKU A. Referral is 15% of the lower sticker ($3.00). COGS rises to $10.00. The size-tier cliff now lands below zero before the adder starts.
SKU B · Home & Kitchen · $19.99 · $10.00 COGS · same inbound and storage
| Weight | Referral (15%) | FBA + fuel | Profit / unit | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 lb | $3.00 | $9.68 | -$3.88 | -19.4% · loss |
| 2.00 lb | $3.00 | $10.07 | -$4.27 | -21.4% · loss |
| 10.00 lb | $3.00 | $13.22 | -$7.42 | -37.1% · loss |
Same calculator path as SKU A: change price to $19.99 and cost to $10.00, keep Large Bulky, then step the weight. 1 lb is already -19.4% · loss.
If A, a 10 lb inbound on the $29.99 / $8.00 SKU still clears $3.08 — cut weight when the carton project is cheaper than $3.54 per unit, and do not send the 20 lb version at this sticker. If B, do not inbound: the first-pound cell is already -$3.88. Raise the sticker, cut COGS, or drop the SKU. Volume does not fix a negative unit.
If A, price the pounds / if B, do not inbound
The rule is not “oversize costs more.” It is two forks on the same Large Bulky formula — re-run your own price, COGS, cube, and the tier Amazon actually assigned before you copy the dollars.
- If leftover after 15% referral, COGS, inbound, and storage still clears a thin-but-positive line at 10 lb (SKU A) — inbound only the weight you can defend. Spend the packaging budget when a real path back toward 1 lb is cheaper than $3.54 per unit. Do not chase Large Standard unless the box also fits that tier’s envelope; that weight-band walkthrough is Amazon FBA fees at 1 lb vs 2 lb vs 3 lb.
- If leftover is already negative at 1 lb (SKU B) — stop. The adder only deepens -$3.88. Re-price or re-source before the first inbound. Peak storage ($2.40/cu ft in Q4 vs $0.78 off-peak) is a separate lever on Amazon Q4 2026 prep.
Comparing the same SKU on another marketplace is the Marketplace Fee Comparison Calculator, not this bulky formula. The 3.5% fuel line that sits on every cell is already inside the calculator’s fulfillment row.
How to run the number this week
- Open the Amazon FBA Calculator. Confirm Seller Central’s size-tier assignment first. Set Large Bulky only when that is the live tier, then Home & Kitchen (or your real category), your COGS and inbound, and January–September storage unless the unit will sit into Q4.
- Enter the live list price. Set weight to the packed shipping weight Amazon will use (the greater of actual and dimensional). Write down Net profit / unit at 1.00 lb, then at the weight you will actually inbound. On SKU A those figures are $6.62 at 1.00 lb, $3.08 at 10.00 lb, and -$0.85 at 20.00 lb.
- If you change cartons often, watch the live dimensional-weight line, not the factory spec. Helium 10* is the research suite we already link from the calculator; Sellerboard* is the per-SKU settlement view. Neither changes the fee card.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Amazon FBA Large Bulky fulfillment fee calculated?
On the 2026 US card this file models, Large Bulky is a base cell plus a per-pound adder after the first pound: $8.58 under $10, $9.35 from $10 through $50, and $9.35 above $50, then + $0.38 per lb above 1.00 lb. The 3.5% fuel surcharge multiplies that sum. A $29.99 unit at 1.00 lb is therefore $9.35 before fuel and $9.68 after. Apparel and dangerous-goods cards are separate. Verify the live cell in Seller Central’s Revenue Calculator.
How do I reproduce the Large Bulky table in the calculator?
Open the Amazon FBA Calculator. Leave the defaults: $29.99 price, $8.00 cost, Home & Kitchen, $1.00 inbound, January–September storage, 0.25 cu ft, 1 month. Switch Product Size Tier to Large Bulky. Set weight to 1.00, then 10.00, then 20.00. Net profit / unit should match $6.62, $3.08, and -$0.85. The tool’s Large Standard 1.5 lb default is $10.69 — that gap is the size-tier cliff, not the per-pound adder.
Is Large Bulky just a heavier Large Standard unit?
No. Large Standard is a size-tier assignment (the calculator labels it ≤18″ × 14″ × 8″ and ≤20 lb). Large Bulky is a different assignment — the calculator labels it ≤59″ on the longest side and ≤50 lb. A 10 lb unit that still fits Large Standard does not use this page’s $9.35 + $0.38/lb formula. Confirm the tier Amazon assigned in Seller Central before you model leftover.
Does the 3.5% fuel surcharge change on Large Bulky?
The rate does not. The 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge (effective 2026-04-17) multiplies whichever Large Bulky base + adder you land on. Heavier units pay more dollars of surcharge because the base is higher — $0.45 on the 10 lb cell versus $0.33 on the 1 lb cell in this example — but it is the same multiplier. The calculator’s fulfillment row already includes it.
Does this page include Small Bulky or Extra-Large weight bands?
No. This dataset has one Large Bulky base band and one Extra-Large 0–50 lb-style base. Small Bulky and the heavier Extra-Large weight cards are not in amazon.ts, so they are not quoted here. If Seller Central shows Small Bulky or an Extra-Large weight band above 50 lb, verify that cell in the Revenue Calculator — do not reuse the $9.35 Large Bulky base.
